VENUS WILIAMS

Venus Williams born on June 17, 1980. Her full name is Venus Ebone Starr Williams and she is a tennis champion who was born in Lansing, Michigan. She is the daughter of Richard and Oracene Williams and the sister of another tennis champion, Serena Williams. When the Williams sisters (Isha, Serena, Venus, Lyndrea and Yetunde) were young, they were moved to Campton, California. There, they sometimes had to dodge bullets while practising tennis at local public courts. Their father Richard used to take all five of his daughters to the courts in hopes that someday at least one of them would reach sporting glory and move them into a better place. Venus as a young girl and she became one of Californias top young tennis players, and she and her sister Serena shared the top seed as California's best young players for a long time. She is a Jehovah Witness, along with her four sisters and mother. Having acquired a Certificate in Interior Decorating and currently studying for a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design, she started V Starr Interiors; an interior design company located in Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter, Florida, which specialises in residential design and works on projects around the country. She designs a line of womens leather apparel for Wilsons Leather, called the Venus Williams Collection. She enjoys art especially that of young emerging artists, and appreciates the styles of artists all around the world. She has been writing poetry since her teens and hopes to publish a book of poetry in the near future.

GENNEVIEVE NNAJI

Born on 3rd May, 1979 to a teacher and a retired engineer is a teacher and my father a retired engineer. She spent her high school years at Methodist Girls High School, Yaba. Gennevieve is a Nigeria actress whose ways of acting had made Entertainment Industry in Nigeria a bit more popular. She is an actress of a high calibre whose passion for movie making is growing daily. Her name has become a commonplace in every Nigeria household particularly those who like watching best Nigerian movie. Gennevieve has taken part in numbers of movies in Nigeria and most of them are the best amongst the rest. By the time she finished high school she has already developed interest in becoming an actress and this was why she combined her acting with a part-time course in Creative Arts at UNILAG but had to opt out due to the hectic requirements and schedule of the movie industry. She believes in making the best of every chance you one has got; pulling oneself out of difficult situations; coping with hard times; making mistakes, admitting to them and learning from them and finally moving on with life without looking back, because life will always go on without looking back at you.

LATE GBENGA ADEBOYE (1959-2003)

Born on 30th September 1959, at Ode Omu, Gbongan, Osun State, Nigeria, late Adeboye first worked as a freelance radio presenter for Radio Lagos where he started a very popular programme which catered for Yoruba listening audience titled Funwontan in 1981. This programme was later re-baptised to Gbenga Adeboye in the Mix on Radio Lagos and Gbenga Adeboye in the House on OGBC. While doing these, he cut over nine albums and put them out on cassette, including Ph. D Beetle, Orosunkunnu 1 & 2, Funwontan 1 & 2, Ijinle Oro lati ori ite mimo 1 & 2, Versatility, Aiyetoro, Supremacy and Controversy. Adeboye's popularity earned him several nicknames including Alhaji, Pastor Oluwo and Funwontan, which stuck with him until his death. Gbenga was an activist, orator, prophet as well as a comedian, humorist, entertainer, the pioneer of stand-up comedy in Nigeria who will never make you sad. He used his talents to install democracy back in Nigeria through all his works, jokes, and radio programmes. Olugbenga gave up the ghost on the 30th of April 2003 throwing the entire entertainment scene into deep mourning and he was so widely respected and loved that crowds trooped out in candle-lit processions all over south-western Nigeria. SERENA WILLIAMS

Serena Williams (born is a famous women's tennis player, who has been ranked number 1 by the WTA on many occasions. She is the younger sister of another female tennis champion, Venus Williams. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on September 26, 1981 and when she and her four sisters were young, their parents, Richard and Oracene, took them to the poor and sometimes violent Los Angeles suburb of Compton. There, her father dreamed of making at least one of his daughters a tennis superstar, hoping that involvement in sports would bring them a way out of that neighbourhood. Both Venus and Serena Williams would be taken to Compton area public tennis courts to practice when they were young, and they had to dodge bullets many times during the early practice days. When Serena was four and a half, she won her first tournament, and she entered 49 tournaments before the age of 10, winning 46 of them. At one point, she replaced her sister, Venus as the number one ranked tennis player aged 12 or under in California.

*Beat Monica Seles to win the Ameritech Tournament in Chicago in 1997.
